Supporting Employees
through Menopause

Many women find they are unprepared for the onset of Menopause and even less equipped to manage its symptoms at work.

Workplaces and working practices are not designed with menopausal women in mind and it is often poorly understood and supported by employers.

Addressing these issues in the workplace can sometimes be ill-received, but the team at Flourish are here to make a difference.

Our workplace programme is a coordinated and comprehensive set of health promotion & protection strategies designed to encourage the health and wellbeing of your employees.

The programme is a combination of individual and organisational level strategies and interventions to influence health and wellbeing, delivered through education and interactive sessions that can be online, in the workplace or off-site.

The Flourish team can offer coaching, support, group exercise and much more. Examples of this include: Yoga/Pilates, Walking/Running Club, weigh-in programmes, breathing and meditation exercises and techniques to manage mindfulness, individual sleep advice and monitoring. These focus on improving lifestyle habits that are shown to treat and improve health conditions and overall wellness.

What services and support does Flourish offer?

We create and deliver bespoke holistic workplace programmes to help businesses flourish. The program contains a combination of individual and organisational level strategies to influence health and well-being. These will fall into five major categories: 

 

Company Policies

We can assist with the writing and implementation of your mental well-being, menopause and other key policies and procedures.

Employee
Training

We can provide training and support of managers, line managers, HR staff and all employees via interactive sessions designed for engagement and confidence.

6-Week
Campaign

Our campaign can be delivered in person or remotely. These will cover the 5 Lifestyle pillars, as well as other key topics.

Coaching & Assessment

We offer lifestyle and nutrition coaching courses, and individual assessments & testing (with an individual Lifestyle Prescription provided as a result).

The Flourish Process:

  1. A fact-finding document is forwarded to nominated personnel within the business (Director/Management)

  2. The programme is first planned out in consultation with the Lifestyle Medicine Doctor to ensure the company’s needs are being addressed and to create a bespoke approach.

  3. Once agreed, we will provide costs, and a proposed schedule of dates and times for sessions, to be delivered either in person or remotely.

  4. All participants would fill in a pre-course questionnaire.

  5. The programme is delivered in a set of weekly sessions online. Each session will comprise of talks, then practical involvement to endorse the principles of each session. Sessions would take place weekly for 5 weeks, and then followed up on the 6th week by a tie-it-all-together session.

  6. Within this framework and approach, any number of specific health risks, conditions and diseases can be addressed. Examples of these include: physical inactivity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, stress, obesity, musculoskeletal disorders, mental health, menopause, heart disease and stroke, diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.

  7. All participants would fill in a post-course questionnaire, and the programme audited, with the company receiving a copy of the analysis (anonymised).

  8. From this analysis, we would provide a corporate plan for the business and personal plan for each participant.

Dr Helen has given of her time on a number of occasions for a group that we started back in April. There was a notable absence of support within our local community for women that were struggling and either felt under-supported by their GP, isolated during this period of their lives or lacking in the knowledge to enable them to approach their symptoms head on without feeling alone.

She has been instrumental in providing both knowledge and support for these women. They have been very vocal in their gratitude for her empowering them to have a better handle on how they approach this fundamental change.

Workplace Programme
Example:

 

Week 1 - Introduction to Menopause
This session covers the symptoms and the effects of the peri-menopause and menopause.


Week 2 - Nutrition

Good nutrition can play a key role in managing the symptoms of many conditions and diseases.

This session will include a 30 minute talk and interactive session with ideas for healthy eating in and outside of work.

Follow on emails and recipe tips will be provided.


Week 3 - Activity
This session will focus on the correct type of exercise for bone health, pelvic health and maintaining a healthy weight.

 

Week 4 - Sleep
This session will cover the importance of sleep and why we need it, how Menopause affects our sleep, and how we can improve our sleep, with recommendations and techniques.


Week 5 - Life and Wellness
This session will help turn your knowledge into actions, help you to create new healthy habits, and how to recognise and address barriers to motivation.


Week 6 - Ask the Doctor
Q&A Session with the Lifestyle Medicine Doctors.
